Hypermiling

Posted by sansad in Fuel Consumption

Hypermiling is a term which refers to a set of techniques that maximizes the fuel economy of any vehicle. With the gas prices soaring to an all time high, hypermiling is what we should start practicing. We not only save a lot of money by hypermiling but also add years to the life of our vehicle. It is being practiced by people who know what it is. The awareness about it is spreading very fast.

Though simply changing your driving habits can result in increasing your MPG, you need special techniques and some simple modifications in your car to get the real advantage of hypermiling.  Simple techniques like keeping your vehicle as light as possible improves the mileage of your vehicle, therefore try to get rid of unnecessary load from your vehicle.

Another hypermiling technique involves using clutch and brakes wisely, though there are certain limitations which need to be taken care of. Keeping the tires properly inflated improves the mileage substantially. Hypermiling beyond a certain limitation is illegal.  To  get a complete guide on hypermiling Click Here!

All you need to do is go through the manual and see how much you can save every month. If you use the techniques and follow instructions properly you can save up to 40% on gas bills. Once you are accustomed to skilful hypermiling just keep your vehicle maintained and enjoy the savings.

How important is fuel for us

Posted by Abhilasha in Fuel Consumption

Fuel is a material which is burnt in order to obtain energy. All carbon based life forms from micro organism to animals and human depend on and use fuels as their source of energy. With the development of the steam engine in 1769 coal came into more common use as power source. The first use of fuel was combustion of wood or sticks by Homoerectus near 2 million years ago. All currently known fuels ultimately derive their energy from a small number of sources. Much of the chemical energy produced by life forms are  fossil fuels.

Chemical fuels are substances that generate energy by reacting with substances around them most notably by the process of oxidization. Bio fuels can be broadly defined as solid, liquid  gas fuel consisting of or derived from any carbon sources that can be replenished rapidly e.g. plants and plant derived materials are used for bio-fuel manufacture. Fossil fuels are hydro carbons. Modern large scale industrial development is based on fossil fuel use, fusion fuel tend to be light comment such as hydrogen, which will combine easily.

World Bank reported that the U.S.A. was the top fuel importer in 2005 followed by Japan and E.U. Coal was  first used as a fuel around 1000 BC  in china.

How To Reduce Fuel Consumption

Posted by sansad in Fuel Consumption

These days your car is just like an extension of your personality. It says a lot about the kind of person you are. While choosing our vehicles we should keep the fuel consumption in mind, no matter how rich we are. Fuel for most of the vehicles today is petrol/diesel. Resources of these fuels are limited and are not going to last long if we exhaust the resources without thinking of some substitute of these fuels.

Scientists are at work to find out some substitute for petroleum fuels. We have also been successful in formulating a few bio fuels. India has been the pioneer in production of bio diesel produced from a plant (Jathropa). Yet its production and supply is far from sufficient to meet the present demand of fuel. Also, for these fuels our vehicles need to be modified which is not viable or economical for every one. As more and more people own their car, there must be some other fuel for future generation before the current petroleum resources are totally exhausted. Electric cars are still not popular .Solar cars will take more time to hit the market properly.

What is the solution then? Should we stop using our vehicles? Are other modes of transportation reliable enough to meet our transportation needs? . No, but there are a few things if acted upon carefully, can reduce our fuel consumption substantially and delay the exhaustion of our limited resources. This in turn will give our scientists more time to discover some alternative fuel for future generation vehicles. Here I am trying to give you a few easy to follow tips which can reduce you fuel consumption remarkably.

Discount Car Rentals Around the World

1. First of all, as I said our car reflects our personality, we should try to keep it well maintained the way we maintain our personality. Regular servicing of our car is one of the most important factors that decides how much fuel it is consuming. Get your car serviced regularly as per manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Tire pressure should be checked regularly. It should neither be less nor more than the recommended limits of the manufacturers.

3. Clutch should be used only when required. Unnecessary use of clutch not only increases fuel consumption but also reduces the life of clutch plates.

4. Air conditioner should be used only when you really need it. There are times when we can do without an air conditioner. Why not use it sparingly when we drive on highways and natural air is more refreshing than the artificial cool air.

5. Major cities in the world have some speed limit recommended by transport authorities. If we stick to the speed limits of the city we live in, we can reduce our fuel consumption. As speed limits are fixed after proper studies and surveys of the traffic volume in a particular area, if we stick to the speed limit we do not have to stop at intersections and we get green signal continuously. This results in less wastage of fuel at intersection while waiting for signals to turn green.

6. Last but not least, do not use your car where a bicycle will be more convenient, like visiting your local market for grocery shopping. It will not only reduce your fuel bill but also strengthen your muscles.
