A few weeks on an exotic island or a hill station is something we eagerly wait for during our hectic urban lives. Spending vacations at places that offer you a lot to explore is worthwhile only if you can plan your vacation wisely. A little ignorance or simply laziness can take the fun away from your holiday trip.

If you have already decided where to go for vacation, try looking for good and cheap hotels or vacation houses. If the place is yet to be decided spend sometime surfing the internet. A nice an memorable holiday is the one that can enhance your knowledge about the local culture and traditions of the place you visit. If you are travelling with kids don’t forget to make the vacation a memorable one for them also. Just little things can make or mar your holidays. A few tips may be helpful.

Book your hotels and tickets in advance, preferably online, as it gives you different choices and flexibility. You can choose the kind of hotel rooms that suits you and your budget.

 Keep your passport at a safe place if you are visiting a foreign country. Check if visa is required.

Do not travel with too much cash. Traveller’s checks are accepted almost everywhere. Credit and debit cards are much safer but keep you credit card details separately. In case you lose your credit card, call the bank and have the card blocked as quickly as possible.

If you need some medicines on regular basis, keep a full stock of your doses so that you don’t have difficulty in finding the right medicine at a new place.

Although it is not a bad idea to keep in touch with your friends, don’t let the phone calls bother you when you are enjoying unless it is extremely unavoidable.

Try to find out about the place as much as you can. What the place is famous for? Are the local people courteous and helpful? Is the language going to be a problem? Try to go though travelers language self help books. It saves you a lot of hassles and troubles later if you know the basic language of the place.
